What is a reserve location?

A reserve location holds backup stock, usually full pallets on upper rack levels, that refills pick faces instead of being picked from for each order.

What reserve is for

Reserve locations hold the bulk of each item. They are usually the higher rack levels or a block-stacked floor area, reached by forklift.

Pickers take stock from pick faces. Reserve only feeds those pick faces, through replenishment, so most picks stay at ground level.

Worked example

In this example, item D-450 has 6 pallets in reserve on levels 2 to 4 above its pick face. Each pallet holds 120 units.

When the pick face drops below its minimum, a forklift driver brings one pallet down. Reserve now holds 5 pallets, and the pick face is full again.

How Waresify handles it

A Waresify location is either a pick face or reserve. Reserve locations are never replenishment targets.

When a pick face needs stock, Waresify looks for the item in reserve, prefers the location with the most available stock, and applies FEFO between equal candidates when lot tracking is on. If no reserve stock exists, the supervisor gets a purchase suggestion.

Questions

Can I pick full pallets straight from reserve?

Many warehouses do for full-pallet orders. In Waresify that is the full pallet picking module.

Is reserve the same as overflow?

Not quite. Reserve is planned backup stock for pick faces. Overflow is where stock goes when its normal location is full.
