Variable Measure / Catch Weight

Professional plan and up

Variable measure, also called catch weight, handles items counted in units but sold by measurement, such as a cheese wheel sold by the kilogram. Workers record the actual weight, volume, length or area at receive and pick, and Waresify keeps both the unit count and the measured total.

How variable measure works in Waresify

An item is flagged as variable measure with a measure type and a billing unit. Four types are covered: weight, volume, length and area.

Stock holds both figures: how many handling units there are, and their total measured quantity. Your ERP receives the measured figures it needs for invoicing.

What the worker records

At receipt and at pick, the device asks for the measured value, for example "Weight (kg)". Each measurement is stored as its own record and corrections add a new one.

How tolerance checks work

Each item can have a nominal measure per unit and a tolerance percentage, with a tenant default as fallback. A measurement inside tolerance is accepted automatically.

Outside tolerance at receipt, the supervisor is notified and can accept, ask for a re-measure, or put the stock on QC hold. At pick, the options are accept or re-measure.

Questions

What is catch weight?

Catch weight is the actual weight of an item that varies per unit, recorded so the customer is invoiced for the real quantity. Meat, cheese and produce are common examples.

Can an item use variable measure and multiple units of measure together?

Yes. The two modules can be active on the same item. Multi-UOM handles fixed packaging ratios, and variable measure handles the measured quantity.

Which plan includes variable measure?

Variable measure is in the Professional tier, so the Professional and Enterprise plans include it. Pricing is announced before launch.
